CHARLES RODGERS Obituary

Charles B. Rodgers, “Bucky”, ”Charlie”, 90, of Mountain Top, PA died at his home on January 4, 2019 surrounded by his loving wife and family. Born in East Mauch Chunk (now Jim Thorpe), PA, he is the son of the late Louise Binder Rodgers and Philip F. Rodgers, Sr.

 

After high school, Charlie proudly served in the US Marine Corp. and received an Honorable Discharge on December 27, 1950. He attended Williamsport Institute of Technology, graduated from Utility Engineering Institute (UEI) in Chicago, and was a trained electrician with Westinghouse, earning his Diesel Mechanic Certificate. Charlie had his career as a Locomotive Engineer and Trainmaster for the Central Railroad of New Jersey/Conrail and retired after 32 years, in 1991.

 

He was a member of the Rice Twp. Fire Co. and Rice Twp. Planning Commission. Charlie was an active member of St. Jude’s Parish, Mountaintop, a member of the Holy Name Society, and a Sir Knight of the Mountaintop Knights of Columbus Council 6440. He enjoyed caring for the operational needs of St. Jude’s School and St. Ann’s Church, was a boy scout leader, and organized the food stand for the annual picnic. He was devoted to the Eucharist Adoration Chapel, the daily rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet and spent many years attending Our Lady Pure of Heart Cenacle. He and Louise loved traveling to various shrines, historical sites and visiting family. Charlie was talented in carpentry, electronics, and any and ALL repairs.

 

He was the beloved husband of Louise M. Rodgers; loving father of Bernard Rodgers (Joanne), Charles A. Rodgers (Maria), Gregory Rodgers (Gina), Paul Rodgers (Darlene), Susan Buro, Daniel Rodgers (Ray), Anthony Rodgers (Lori), Julie Lenio (Scott), and Nancy Rodgers; dear brother of Ann Pennell. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Charlie was preceded in death by his daughter Mary Lou Moshier, son-in-law Anthony Buro, and his siblings: the late Philip Rodgers, Rosemary Lehr, Sr. Clementia Rodgers, and Joseph Rodgers, .

 

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday January 9 at the Desiderio-Lehman Funeral Home, 436 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Jude’s Church, Rte. 309 Mountain Top at 10 a.m. on Thursday January 10. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Drums, PA.
