Beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Dorothy “Dot” Joan Stewart (Marple), 91, of Washington Township, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025. She loved the snow, and her family is comforted knowing that on the morning she was welcomed into God’s embrace, the first snowfall blanketed Pennsylvania, where she lived with her daughter in her final years.
Born on July 25, 1934 in Camden, NJ, Dot graduated from Cooper Hospital School of Nursing in 1955, beginning a lifelong career in nursing. She worked at West Jersey Hospital until her retirement, and her compassion and humor touched countless lives. She was married to Edward Stewart for 48 years before his passing in 2009.
Dot was an active and devoted member of St. John’s Church in Turnersville. She found great joy in her church community and in the fellowship it brought throughout her life.
To those fortunate enough to know her, Dot will be remembered as a steadfast friend, a fantastic cook, a loving mother, and someone who might have let a colorful word slip during a Phillies or Eagles game. But above all, we will remember her by the title she cherished the most: Grandmom.
She reveled in her grandchildren and created absolute magic for them: summers in her pool, shopping trips, plays and shows, shore adventures, and everything Mom and Dad said “no” to. She made each of them feel special - smart, funny, and completely seen. When life felt hard, she was always a soft place to land. She was endlessly proud of her family, and they were just as proud to belong to her. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Dot is survived by her two children, Marvin Stewart (wife Julie) of Tabernacle, New Jersey, and Donna Keller (husband Richard) of Wapwallopen, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren, Rebekah Keller (fiancé William), Holly Lakkis (husband Peter), Christy Whipple (husband Brandon), Zachary Stewart, Jenny Keller (fiancé Luke), Jordan Stewart, Aaron Keller, and Jocelyn Keller; and seven great-grandchildren: Patrick, Vanessa, Owen, Hannah, Jackson, Amelia, and William.
Graveside service will be held on Monday, December 8, 2025 at 11:30 am in Gloucester County Veterans Cemetery.
A reception will follow in St. John’s Church in Turnersville, New Jersey.
