George E. Stozenski, a resident of Mountain Top, died on Tuesday evening, November 16, 2021.
Born in Forty Fort on Dec. 29, 1927, he was the son of the late John and Mary Hardish Stozenski. George was a graduate of Forty Fort High School, Class of 1945, where he was a three sport athlete. He attended Scranton University on a football/basketball scholarship. Following a year at Scranton, and two years in the Army, he transferred to Drexel University in Philadelphia. He played football and baseball at Drexel and was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity.
After graduating from Drexel and several job locations, he joined PPL in 1956, as the Senior Industrial Marketing Engineer in Wilkes-Barre. He spent 35 years with the company retiring as the Wilkes-Barre Area Manager.
Very active in the community, he was a member of St. Jude's Church and served as Chairman of the former Mercy Hospital. President of both the Wilkes-Barre Lions Club and the Wyoming Valley Country Club. He also served on the founding board of the Kirby Center. Other board affiliations included Blue Cross of NEPA, Wilkes-Barre; Chamber of Commerce and the Hospital Trustee Association of PA. In recognition of his community service, he was named "Man of the Year" in 1990 by the Wilkes-Barre Lions Club.
George is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sheila Maughan Stozenski, son, George and his wife, Carolyn of Montville, NJ; daughter, Lisa Dagit and her husband, John of Boothwyn, PA; grandchildren, John and Holly Dagit and William and Ethan Stozenski; several nieces and nephews. His only brother, Jack, died in 2020.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 11:00 am in St. Jude's Church, Mountain Top. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends are invited to join the family for a visitation on Monday, November 22, 2021 from 4 to 6 pm and again Tuesday morning, at the church, at 10:00 am.
