Obituary

Mountaintop - Geraldine “Gerri” Cornelius of Mountain Top, PA was called by her Lord to enter eternal rest on Sunday, June 5th 2022. Gerri was born on April 29, 1941 to the late Robert and Geraldine Nobel of Mountain Top. Gerri was a graduate of Fairview High School (1959) as well as a graduate of Luzerne County Community College (1990).

Gerri married the love of her life, James Cornelius of MountainTop, in December 1961. Married for over sixty years, the love they shared was truly a special love, one that many would dream of. They had a loving and devoted relationship and together they raised six children.

Gerri was a member of the Word of God Bible Church in Wilkes Barre, PA.  She was a faithful servant to her Lord and Savior. Gerri was a Child Evangelist, devoting much of her life teaching children about the Bible and her love for her Lord. She attended church every Sunday and taught the word every Wednesday until she was unable. She was more than happy to be the central figure in the lives of her grandchildren. Anyone that knew them knew that she was a star in their eyes, and that mattered so much to her. Her biggest goal was to help guide her children and grandchildren to be children of God.

Gerri found joy in the simple pleasures in life. She loved spending holidays with her family, enjoying a great meal and a lot of desserts. She loved ice cream, pink wafer cookies, spearmint leaf candies, and anything sweet as long as it did not have nuts. Her favorite color was blue with yellow as a close second. Her favorite Easter flower was a white lily. She took great pride in her pumpkin pies and pumpkin bread for Thanksgiving. She especially loved Christmas, and never missed a year without baking a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and the words Happy Birthday Jesus on it.  She loved the songs “Silent Night” and “O Holy Night”.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children and grandchildren as follows. Jennifer and David Gruber, and their son Pippin Gruber; Jonathon Cornelius and his children, Ryan, Chelsea and Jason Cornelius; Mary and Allen Estes; Dan and Tracy Cornelius, and their children, Joseph and Brittany Cornelius; Jess and Gene Zellman; and Ed and Robin Cornelius, and their children Eddie and Cadence Cornelius. Gerri is also survived by many loving brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. They are grateful for the many wonderful memories they will hold in their hearts forever. Gerri will be missed by so many, but she was and will always be in the palm of the Lord’s  hand.

A memorial service will be held on June 19th at the American Legion Post 781 in Mountain Top, PA at 12:30 PM with a service directly to follow with Pastor Kevin Straka serving as the Memorial officiant.
