John W. Thomas Jr., 65, of Kingston, formerly of Mountain Top, passed away peacefully at Allied Hospice, Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre, with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, John was a graduate of Crestwood High School. He worked as a dedicated security guard at various locations throughout the region, most recently serving at Wyoming Valley Motors. Known for his warm personality and quiet strength, John found joy in simple pleasures and meaningful connections.
An avid ham radio operator and examiner, John was deeply involved in the amateur radio community. He was a familiar face at local car shows, where he enjoyed sharing stories and admiring classic vehicles. A passionate football fan, he cheered for both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles.
John was preceded in death by his parents John W. and Ruth Gittens Thomas and his beloved wife, Karen Shoemaker Thomas. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Ruth Lasoski and Louise Ann Tredinnick and their spouses Steven Lasoski and Gary Tredinnick; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and his loyal canine companion, Zues.
John will be remembered for his kind heart, steady presence, and the love he shared with those around him.
Funeral service will be conducted on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 11:00 am from the Desiderio-Lehman Funeral and Cremation, 436 S. Mountain Blvd. Mountain Top with burial in Albert Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the family for a visitation from 10:00 am until time of service at the funeral home.
