Rene Aufiero, of Mountain Top, unexpectedly passed away into the hands of our Lord on August 16, 2021.
She was raised in Plymouth and attended Wyoming Valley West High School and Wilkes University. She was the daughter of the late John J. Aufiero and Irene Evans. She was an active member of the St. Jude’s Parish Church in Mountain Top. Rene was the proud owner and operator of the Pizza Shack located in Carbondale and Wilkes-Barre, PA. She enjoyed sports, traveling, cooking, baking, crocheting, birdwatching, researching her ancestry, and spending time with family. Rene was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy in life was caring for her grandchildren. She had a kind personality and a contagious smile that made her a pleasure to be around. She will be greatly missed by all fortunate enough to have known her.
Rene was preceded in death by her brother, John Aufiero, and her son, Justin Barna. She is survived by her sons Jim Barna and wife Janell, Nanticoke; John Barna and wife Bobbi Jo, Mountain Top; Grandchildren, Brittany, Giavanna, Dylan, Lexi, Myatalia, Giovanni, Vonn, Aaliyah, Anabella, Emma, Nico, Jayda, Rocco, and Dominic; Great grandchild, Addison; Brothers, George Romano and wife Diana, Murfreesboro, TN; Robert Burke and wife Theresa, Omaha, NE; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family; and of course, her beloved dog, Italia.
A private memorial service was held at the Desiderio-Lehman Funeral Home in Mountain Top to celebrate the life of Rene.
The family would like to thank the Desiderio-Lehman Funeral Home for their utmost compassion and kindness in aiding with the arrangements.
