Robert J. Abdo, 72, of Mountain Top, born and raised in Scranton, died at home of natural causes Monday, December 6, 2021. He was the son of the late Edmund and Alice (Golod) Abdo Sr. He was a graduate of Scranton Central High School, where he was an outstanding athlete and excelled in baseball, football, and basketball. Bob served his country proudly in the US Air Force, at Phang Rang Air Force Base, South Vietnam. He also served a tour of duty at Lakenheath Air Force Base, England. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. In his early career Bob was a Manager for Rite Aid Corporation and then further served his country for 30 years as a Commissary Supervisor at the Tobyhanna Army Depot.
Robert is survived by his brothers: Edmund (Mary Alice) Abdo Jr. Honesdale, PA.; Garry Abdo Purcellville, VA; Larry (Sheila) Abdo Scranton, PA and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He enjoyed classic movies and watching the Washington Football Team and New York Yankees. He conducted daily family text quizzes and was fondly regarded as the “Quiz Master.” He loved vacationing on Long Beach Island, NJ and was a member of the Mountain Top American Legion.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, December 13, 2021, at 11:00 am from St. Jude’s Church, Mountain Top with Reverend Joe Evanko officiating. Private interment will follow in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.
Friends are invited to join the family for a visitation at the church from 10:00 am until the time of Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital or a charity of the donor’s choice.
