Stephen Witinski, 79, of Mountaintop, passed away, Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born on January 2, 1942, in Hanover Township, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Tomko Witinski and graduated from Hanover Area High School, Class of 1959. He was drafted into the Army and served in the Vietnam War and was the recipient of the Vietnam Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Prior to retirement, Stephen had been employed by the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for over 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion and St. Jude's Church, Mountaintop.
Stephen was a jack of all trades, a handyman that could fix just about anything. He had a passion for hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed country music, old westerns, many cruises and most of all the slot machines at the casino.
In addition to his parents, Stephen was predeceased in death by his son, Stephen F. Witinski Jr., a son in law, Matt Kosko along with three brothers and four sisters.
Above all he was the most loving husband, father and pop-pop. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Alma Niedzwiecki; two daughters, Susan Kosko; Amie Stewart and her husband, Ryan. Along with his three grandsons, Austin Dane, Gavin and Ryan Kosko; two sisters and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 am, Monday, March 8, 2021, from the Desiderio-Lehman Funeral and Cremation, 436 S. Mountain Blvd. Mountain Top with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Jude's Church. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Nanticoke.
Friends are invited to join the family for a visitation Monday, from 9:00 am until 10:00 am at the funeral home.
