WILLIAM BALL Obituary

William J. Ball, 72, of Mountain Top, passed away early Friday morning, June 18, 2021 at his home.

 

Born Nov. 17, 1948 in Nanticoke, he was the son of the late Gus and Evelyn (Elliot) Ball.

 

Billy was a 1966 graduate of Nanticoke High School and a U.S. Marine veteran who served from 1966 to 1969 in the Vietnam war, receiving two Purple Hearts and the Presidential Unit Citation as Corporal before being honorably discharged.

 

He was employed by Certainteed Corp., Mountain Top, for 42 years as a line lead and a member of the UAW Local 365, the American Legion, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

 

Billy enjoyed shooting pool and darts and teaching people both. He loved sci-fi movies, was an awesome cook and grill master and was an avid fan of the L.A. Raiders and Penn State Football.

 

He had a huge heart filled with love and kindness and always felt the need to offer advice and lend a hand when needed. He was quite the comedian and cherished all his family and friends.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ann Bunin, N.J., Brother-in-Law, Joe Ritz, McAdoo, Sister-in-Law, Kate Ball, Scranton and Brother-in-Law, Ray Jones, Dupont.

 

Surviving are his wife Anne (Gaffney) Ball; his son Billy, Nanticoke; daughter Robyn and husband Patrick Barrett, Plymouth; brothers, George, Scranton, Danny and wife Betty, Pittston Twp., Peter and wife Sandy, Nanticoke, Barry and wife Sheri, Nebraska; sisters, Ella Ritz, McAdoo, Dorothy and husband Bruce Bagley, Mechanicsburg, Kathy Jones, Dupont, Godson, Kyle Jones, Duryea; grandchildren, Raiden Ball and Daniel (Danielson) Barrett, numerous nieces and nephews and beloved cat Boots.

 

Memorial service, with Military Honors, will be conducted at 12:00 noon, on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, from the Desiderio-Lehman Funeral and Cremation, 436 S. Mountain Blvd. Mountain Top with a visitation from 11:00 am until time of service.
