William Custer Obituary

William “Bill” D. Custer, of Pocono Lake, passed away on June 21, 2026.

Born in Pottstown on October 17, 1955, he was the son of the late David and Janet Thompson Custer and a graduate of Norristown High School.

Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he became a successful self-employed businessman, owning and operating Bill Custer Plumbing and Heating. Known for his strong work ethic and generous spirit, Bill had a big heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing and camping. Bill was an avid Philadelphia sports fan who faithfully cheered on the Phillies, Eagles, and Flyers. He also had a deep appreciation for rock and roll music, particularly the sounds of the Grateful Dead and Led Zeppelin.

Above all, Bill treasured the time he spent with his family and friends and will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, and willingness to help others.

Surviving are his children, Christopher Custer of Philadelphia; Jamie Custer and his wife, Erin, of Schwenksville; Suzanne Custer of Kingston; and Colleen Custer of Shavertown; grandchildren, Troy J. Myers, McKayla Barber, Cassidy Barber, Kailee Custer, Sebastian Custer, Gabby Clarkson, and Julianna Clarkson; two great-grandchildren; his beloved companion, Barbara Charles; sister, Donna Curci; brother, David Custer Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 29 years, Patricia A. Custer; his brother, Ronald Custer; and his nephew, Daniel Messing, whom he lovingly raised as his own.
